Keukenhof

In 1949, the then mayor of Lisse, Mr. W.J.H. Lambooy, together with ten leading bulb-growers, conceived the idea of a permanent annual open-air flower exhibition. Thereby, plans were developed to create the bulb flower garden Keukenhof for the purpose of showing visitors the splendour and different varieties of the Dutch bulb industry.

The Blom family have had a show garden at Keukenhof since it first opened, less than a mile from the nurseries in Holland. However, the number of bulb-growing companies taking part has now grown from 10 to more than 90, but Keukenhof's character remains unchanged. Every year it exhibits the best and most beautiful flowers in the Netherlands.

If your schedule permits these gardens are a must visit. Keukenhof has become one of the bestknown attractions in Holland and one of the most photographed sights in the world.

The season runs from late March through mid-May. Daffodils, crocus, and narcissi are on display when the gardens open, with tulips making their appearance a few weeks later. Hyacinths kick in around mid-April and stay in bloom for several weeks. The best time to come is in the last half of April, when you're likely to catch everything blooming at once.
